Successful Treatment of Corneal Larva Migrans by Nd:YAG Laser Photodisruption

چکیده
An eight‐year‐old girl presented with a one‐week history of redness in the right eye. Best corrected visual acuity was 6/6 bilaterally. The right eye showed mild circumcorneal congestion and a worm in the central cornea [Figure 1], which showed a wiggling motility under high magnification of slit lamp. The rest of the ocular examination was normal. Considering the very central location of the worm in cornea, any intervention to remove or destroy the worm was deferred on that day. By the next day, the worm had migrated to the peripheral cornea at the 10 o’clock position [Figure 2]. We decided on Nd: YAG laser photodisruption of the worm, rather than its surgical removal. Laser parameters of 1 mJ and single pulse delivery were selected. The focal point of the aiming beam was set directly at the focal point of the laser disruption. After careful counseling and topical anesthesia with 0.5% proparacaine eye drops, an Ocular Abraham Iridectomy lens (Product Code: OAIY, Ocular instruments, Bellevue, Washington, USA) was applied to the ocular surface with coupling fluid. The laser was applied to both ends of the worm because it was not possible to distinguish between the head and tail ends. Two bursts of laser were directed at Successful Treatment of Corneal Larva Migrans by Nd:YAG Laser Photodisruption

Intraocular photodisruption with picosecond and nanosecond laser pulses: tissue effects in cornea, lens, and retina.
PURPOSE Nd:YAG laser photodisruption with nanosecond (ns) pulses in the millijoule range is an established tool for intraocular surgery. This study investigates tissue effects in cornea, lens, and retina to assess whether picosecond (ps) pulses with energies in the microjoule range can increase the surgical precision, reduce collateral damage, and allow applications requiring more localized tis...

The use of a laser in place of a mechanical keratome for flap creation was a turning point in the field of refractive surgery. Visible and near infrared laser light are absorbed by the refractive structures of the eye and allowed to pass freely into the eye without effect at low-power densities. At high-power densities, the nonlinear optical properties of the cornea lead to absorption, generati...

PURPOSE To report a case of Valsalva premacular hemorrhage treated by Nd:YAG laser. METHODS A patient who presented with Valsalva premacular hemorrhage was treated with photodisruptive Nd:YAG laser to drain the entrapped premacular blood into the vitreous. RESULTS After photodisruption, vision in the affected eye improved rapidly due to exposure of the macula. CONCLUSION Nd:YAG laser trea...
متن کاملCutaneous Larva Migrans: A case report
Cutaneous larva migrans is a self-limited cutaneous eruption caused by larva of roundworms that do not normally parasitize humans. Ankylostoma brazielensis, the dog and cat hookworm, is the most common agent. The disease is found in tropical and subtropical regions and may be seen in travelers from these regions. We report a case of a 37-year-old Iranian man who had cutaneous larva migrans afte...

AIM To perform ultrasound biomicroscopic analysis of pseudophakic pupillary block glaucoma induced by lens capsule and a Soemmering's ring and its resolution, and to elucidate the pathophysiology of this glaucoma. METHODS A woman with pseudophakic pupillary block glaucoma underwent successful neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser photodisruption of the lens capsule through a laser iridotomised colobom...
